FAQs

Why do I need a bookkeeper for my business?
It’s incredibly important to know your business financials and we believe in getting it right from day one! Most small business owners find it stressful to run a business and maintain the books too!

Having a bookkeeper relieves that stress by keeping the day-to-day stuff ticking over, reconciling, balancing, coding and ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly. The better your bookkeeping, the easier it is for you and your accountant at the end of the financial year.

What is a BAS Agent?
A BAS Agent is authorised to prepare and lodge BAS on your behalf. Not all bookkeepers are BAS Agents, so it’s always good to check! Any bookkeeper who provides a BAS service for a fee, or providing guidance in relation to GST must be a registered BAS agent.
How will my business benefit from having a bookkeeper?
Our approach is to build a strong working relationship between ourselves, our clients and their accountants. We find this three-way system benefits everyone, ensuring we’re all on the same page when it comes to your business finances. By working together, information is shared and kept up to date, so financials are visible in real time, an asset for any business.
What accounting software should I choose?
We are Silver Partners with Xero, so naturally it’s our choice of software. In fact, it’s the only software we use! However, if you operate other software and are happy to change over to Xero, we can organise the transition for you.
What are some common bookkeeping mistakes you’ve come across?

GST – Incorrect tax codes linked to accounts

Initial Set Up – Not accounting for business expenses which have been paid for personally by the business owner

Financial Information – Incorrect financial information recorded in the set up

Chart of Accounts – Coding expenses, income, assets, liabilities etc incorrectly set up

Bank Accounts – Transactions missing from bank accounts feeds

If not picked up, any one or a combination of the above issues could create problems and misinformation in your business.

How much will bookkeeping cost?
This is something every business owner needs to think about. The cost.

Generally, a small business will have roughly about 3-4 hours of bookkeeping a month. However, we like to think of it in a different way. Rather than how much will it cost, think about how much value it will add to your business.

Regardless of what we charge, we can guarantee you will add more value to your business just by you, the business owner, being present in your business and outsourcing your bookkeeping to a qualified, diligent, efficient, honest, and reliable bookkeeper. Think of us as a silent partner, working behinds the scenes!
